The Holy Spirit: Understanding What It Is And How It Works In Us!

 The Holy Spirit is a mystery to many, but He is more than that to Christians. While He may be invisible and intangible, the Holy Spirit is a real part of the trinity; God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Who Is The Holy Spirit?

We can define  the Holy Spirit in various ways to get a better understanding of who He is:

• The Holy Spirit Is The Spirit Of God

As earlier mentioned, according to the Bible, God exists as a trinity. Therefore the Holy Spirit is God Himself.

In (Matthew 28:19), “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Ghost,” Jesus acknowledges the Holy Spirit as part of the Holy Trinity, which are all God, in different versions.

The Holy Spirit was present and took part in creation when God created the world, as (Genesis 1:2) states, “And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.”

• The Holy Spirit Is A Person

The Holy Spirit is a person in that they are capable of feeling. According to (Ephesians 4:30), “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption”  the Holy Spirit can grieve, just like people do.

Like a person, the Holy Spirit can get sad and angry like in (Isaiah 63:10), “Yet they rebelled and grieved his Holy Spirit. So he turned and became their enemy, and He fought against them.”

• The Holy Spirit Is Functional And Important

The Holy Spirit does not just exist; rather, it functions in every believer’s life. Before Jesus’s death, Jesus spoke a lot about the Holy Spirit.

He didn’t want to leave His believers without help, and therefore He said, in (John 14: 16-17), “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth.”

Different versions of this scripture refer to the Holy Spirit differently, each of which is His role in a believer’s life:

• A Comforter
• A counselor
• The Spirit of truth
• An advocate
• A Helper
